Meta Can Now Detect AI In Your Ads — Here’s What Advertisers Need To Know
Meta has quietly changed the way AI-generated ads are disclosed — and if you're using AI anywhere in your creative process, this is worth knowing.
As of June 2026, Meta isn't only identifying ads made with its own generative AI tools anymore. It's beginning to automatically detect ads created or edited using third-party AI tools too, using industry-standard signals embedded in the content.
But here's the part that's getting confused online:
The “AI info” label does not automatically mean your ad has been flagged, rejected or penalised.
It's primarily a transparency feature.
So before you panic about using AI in your ads, here's what's actually happening.

Reality 1
Where The “AI Info” Label Actually Shows Up
Meta is rolling out a new “About this ad” section inside the three-dot menu you see on ads.
This is becoming the central place where Meta shows additional transparency information about an ad — including AI information.
If Meta detects that an ad has been created or significantly edited using its own generative AI tools, or detects signals showing that third-party AI tools were used, it may add an “AI info” label there.
Depending on the ad and how AI was used, Meta says AI information can also appear more prominently alongside the Sponsored label.
THE IMPORTANT PART:
Seeing “AI info” does not mean Meta has rejected the ad.
Meta is telling the viewer how the creative was made.
That's very different from an ad policy violation.

Reality 2
What Can Trigger An AI Label?
This is where a lot of the advice online gets misleading.
Simply opening your ad in Canva, Photoshop or another editing app does not automatically make it an AI-generated ad.
The distinction is whether generative AI was actually used to create or meaningfully alter the content.
Think:
→ Generating an image from a prompt
→ Creating an AI-generated background
→ Generatively adding or replacing objects
→ Significantly changing an image using AI
→ Creating or altering video with generative AI
→ Using Meta's own generative AI creative features
Meta says it is now beginning to detect third-party AI creation and editing through industry-standard signals contained in the content.
What about normal editing?
Basic editing is not the same thing as generating content with AI.
Cropping a photo.
Resizing it.
Changing the brightness.
Adjusting the colour.
Adding normal text or graphics.
Those aren't suddenly “AI-generated ads” because you happened to do them inside software that also contains AI features.
QUICK RULE
Don't ask:
“Did I use Canva/Photoshop/CapCut?”
Ask:
“Did I actually use generative AI to create or significantly change this creative?”
That's the distinction that matters.

Reality 3
Meta May Detect It For You
This is probably the biggest update for advertisers.
Previously, Meta's AI ad labeling focused heavily on creative made or significantly edited using Meta's own generative AI advertising tools.
Now it's expanding beyond that.
Meta says:
It is beginning to automatically detect ads created or edited with third-party AI tools.
So your workflow might look like:
AI image generator → editing software → Ads Manager
…and Meta may still be able to detect signals showing AI was involved.
That doesn't mean you need to start trying to remove metadata, export your image ten different ways or “beat” the label.
You don't need to.
The label isn't something advertisers need to be scared of.
It's there to give the person seeing the ad more transparency about how the creative was made.

Reality 4
An AI Label Doesn't Mean Your Ad Can't Run
This is probably the most important takeaway from this entire guide:
Meta is not banning AI ads.
In fact, Meta is actively building more generative AI tools into its own advertising products.
The company has been expanding AI-powered creative, campaign automation and Advantage+ tools across its advertising platform.
The AI label and Meta's Advertising Standards are two different things.
Your ad can use AI and still run.
What still matters is whether the actual ad complies with Meta's normal advertising rules.
In other words:
AI-generated ≠ rejected.
AI label ≠ policy violation.
AI info ≠ account strike.
It's a transparency layer.

Reality 5
There IS One Area Where Disclosure Rules Are Different
There is an important exception.
Meta has specific disclosure requirements around AI-generated or digitally altered content in certain ads about social issues, elections and politics.
Meta confirmed in its 2026 election guidance that advertisers in this category are still required to self-disclose the use of AI in certain circumstances.
That's a much more specific policy.
So don't take rules written for political advertising and assume they automatically apply to every ecommerce store, coach, creator or small business running a normal Meta campaign.
For the majority of advertisers, the big 2026 change is increased transparency and automatic AI detection.

Step 6
So… Should You Stop Using AI In Your Ads?
Absolutely not.
AI isn't the problem.
Trying to build your entire advertising strategy around hiding the fact that you've used it is solving the wrong problem.
Use AI to help you:
→ Produce more creative variations
→ Test different concepts
→ Create backgrounds and visual ideas
→ Develop hooks
→ Turn ideas into ads faster
→ Generate new angles to test
And if Meta detects that AI was used and adds an AI Info label?
Keep testing the ad.
Because the little AI label isn't the metric you should be obsessing over.
Your cost per lead, cost per acquisition, click-through rate, conversion rate and return on ad spend are.

REALITY CHECK
The AI label isn't what's killing your ads.
You can have perfectly compliant creative.
You can have every setting technically correct.
You can have an ad with no AI in it whatsoever.
…and still lose money.
Because compliance doesn't make an ad convert.
Your offer matters.
Your hook matters.
Your creative matters.
Your targeting and campaign setup matter.
Your funnel matters.
And most importantly:
You need a system for testing ads until you find what your audience actually responds to.
That's what I teach in my free Meta Ads Money Machine masterclass.
