40 Ad Formats Worth Every Dollar

Most people run out of ad ideas long before they run out of budget. Not because they've run out of things to say about their offer — because they keep saying it the same way, in the same format, until it stops working. Meta doesn't reward the advertiser with the best offer. It rewards the one with the most ways of presenting it. Here are 40, organised so you're never starting from a blank screen again.

You don't need a new offer. You need a new format for the one you've already got.

Every format below has been used to sell something, somewhere, successfully - the skill isn't inventing a new ad style from scratch, it's picking the right one off this list for what you're trying to say today.
Format Type 1

Screenshot & Native Formats (Doesn't Look Like An Ad)

These work because they don't read as advertising at first glance - the scroll-past instinct doesn't kick in.

IG Story — a screenshot-style story format, built to feel like it was never meant to be an ad

iPhone Notes — your pitch typed out like a note, felt more than sold

Text Message — the offer delivered as a text thread, the way a friend would actually tell you

Reddit Style — a fake thread format, using the "brutally honest strangers" trust of Reddit

Google Search — your offer shown as a search result, catching people mid-intent

Email Screenshot — an inbox screenshot that reads more like proof than promotion

Native — no format tricks at all, just content that blends straight into the feed it's running in

Text On Skin — the hook written directly on skin, impossible to scroll past without reading it
Format Type 2

Comparison Formats (Make The Choice Obvious)

Contrast does the selling for you - people don't have to imagine the difference, they can see it.

Us vs Them — you, positioned directly against the competitor or the old way

Venn Diagram — two circles, one overlap, and your offer sitting exactly where it needs to

New vs Old — the outdated method next to the modern one

Problem vs Solution — split screen, no room to miss the point

Tier List — ranking your offer (and the alternatives) from worst to best

Myth vs Fact — a belief your audience holds, corrected on camera

Us vs Us — your own before-and-after, no competitor required

Side Effect — the "side effects" of not solving the problem, framed like a warning label
Format Type 3

Proof & Credibility Formats (Let Someone Else Sell It)

Nobody trusts an advertiser talking about themselves. Everybody trusts a stranger who already bought.

We're Sorry — a mock apology ad, owning a flaw in a way that builds more trust than it costs

Customer Testimonial — a real result, in a real customer's words

Stat Headline — one sharp number doing all the convincing

Trustpilot Reviews — real review screenshots, stitched together

Zero Stars — a "worst review" flipped into proof (works when the complaint is secretly a benefit)

Case Of Emergency — proof framed as "break glass in case of" urgency

Breaking News — your result, delivered like a live news bulletin

Low Stock Alert — scarcity, shown rather than just claimed
Format Type 4

Curiosity & Warning Formats (Stop The Scroll First)

These exist purely to interrupt the scroll — the sell comes after the stop.

X Reasons Why — a countdown format that promises a specific payoff

Don't Buy This — the pattern interrupt of an ad telling you not to buy

Don't Be An Idiot — blunt, direct, impossible to skim past

X Signs — "signs you need this," letting the viewer self-diagnose

Crossed Out Problems — a list of problems, struck through one by one as your offer solves them

You Can Avoid — framing your offer as the thing standing between them and a mistake

Warning — literal warning-label framing for a problem they didn't know they had

Bundle Offer — the "wait, all of this?" moment, stacking value visibly
Format Type 5

Creative & Entertainment Formats (Content First, Ad Second)

These work because they're genuinely entertaining before they're ever persuasive.

Whiteboard — a hand-drawn explainer, simple and disarming

Doodle — casual sketch-style animation over your key point

Hack 101 — positioned as a life hack, not a pitch

Transformation — the visual before-and-after, doing the convincing without words

Meme — culturally fluent, instantly relatable, barely feels like marketing

Claymation — stop-motion style, impossible to associate with a "normal" ad

AI Podcast — a fake podcast clip discussing your offer like it's industry news

Greenscreen — you, reacting to or explaining something in front of a background that does extra work
Real Talk

40 formats won't fix a weak offer. They'll help you find out faster if your offer is strong.

A list like this doesn't replace strategy - it replaces guesswork. Instead of wondering why one ad style stopped working, you test the next format on this list against the same offer and let the data tell you which angle your audience actually responds to.

This is exactly why I created a masterclass showing how you can maximize your ads to potentially bring back $3–$5 for every dollar you invest. Click below to watch the Masterclass for free.👇
