10 Instagram Updates You Need To Know Before 2027

Instagram is giving creators more control over their profiles, posts and how audiences consume content. Features don't always arrive for every account, region or device at the same time, so if you can't see one of these options yet, update the app and check again later. The important part isn't just knowing what changed — it's knowing how each change can make your content easier to discover, easier to consume, or more useful to the people you want to attract.

Instagram is giving you more ways to curate, edit and extend the life of your content after you hit publish.

Here are the ten updates; what each one actually does, and how to use it.
Update 1

Add Tagged Posts To Your Main Profile Grid

Instagram is rolling out the option to move posts you're tagged in from the Tagged tab onto your main profile grid. Open the post you're tagged in and choose Add to Grid, use the option from the tag notification in DMs, or long-press the post inside your Tagged tab.
Why it matters
for creators and brands, this makes collaborations, testimonials, event photos and user-generated content much easier to showcase without reposting the same content yourself.
Update 2

Reorder Your Profile Grid

Your profile no longer has to stay in strict posting order - you can rearrange your main grid to create the layout you want. Long-press a post from your profile and select Reorder Grid, then drag posts into your preferred positions.
Why it matters
treat your grid like a landing page. Put your strongest authority post, best offer, proof and most useful educational content where new visitors are most likely to see them.
Update 3

Replace Audio On An Existing Feed Post Or Carousel

Instagram now lets you swap the music on published feed posts and carousels while keeping the existing engagement. Open the published post, tap the menu, choose Edit, then use Replace Audio if the option is available on your account.
Why it matters
refresh older evergreen posts with audio that better fits your brand or current content direction, without sacrificing the likes, comments and shares already attached to the post.
Update 4

Reply To Comments With A Reel

A useful comment can become the starting point for your next piece of content - Instagram supports replying to comments with a Reel on eligible content. Open the comment you want to answer, tap Reply, and choose the Reel/camera option when it appears.
Why it matters
turn FAQs, objections and high-interest comments into content. You already know at least one person cares about the topic - chances are more of your audience does too.
Update 5

Reorder Carousel Slides After Publishing

Posted the slides in the wrong order? You can now rearrange photos and videos inside an existing carousel. Open the carousel, tap the menu, choose Edit, then long-press a slide and drag it into a new position.
Why it matters
if a carousel is performing well but the opening sequence is weak, test moving a stronger visual or key point earlier - you can improve the flow without deleting the entire post.
Update 6

Pause A Reel With A Tap

Instagram has made Reel viewing more controllable: users can pause a Reel by tapping it, and tap again to continue.
Why it matters
this is a small viewer update with a big content lesson - text-heavy Reels can be easier to consume. Give viewers useful frames worth pausing on: checklists, prompts, examples and mini tutorials.
Update 7

Edit A Comment After Posting

Instagram is introducing more flexibility around comments, including the ability on supported accounts to edit a comment after it's been posted. Open the options for your comment and look for Edit - if you don't see it yet, the feature may still be rolling out to your account or region.
Why it matters
typos no longer have to mean deleting a useful comment and starting again - especially handy when you leave detailed answers, CTAs or brand responses.
Update 8

Watch Reels At 2x Speed

Viewers can speed through a Reel by holding the right side of the screen, making longer videos faster to consume.
Why it matters
get to the value quickly. If people can speed up your content, slow intros become even easier to skip - lead with the hook, remove filler, and make every section earn the next few seconds.
Update 9

Add Captions To Individual Carousel Slides

Instagram is expanding carousel storytelling by allowing text captions or context to be attached at the slide level on supported versions. When creating or editing a carousel, look for the option to add a caption or description to individual slides.
Why it matters
use each slide to carry its own context - product details, step-by-step explanations, credits or extra information. It can make a carousel feel more like a mini guide than a collection of images.
Update 10

Use Reposts To Reach Beyond Your Own Audience

Instagram's repost feature lets people repost public feed posts and Reels. Reposted content is credited to the original creator and may be recommended to the reposter's followers. Tap the Repost icon on an eligible public post or Reel - you can add a short note before sharing it.
Why it matters
create content people genuinely want to pass on - sharp opinions, useful frameworks, relatable moments, checklists and highly shareable education. A repost can put your work in front of people who don't follow you yet.
Real Talk

Stop treating every post like a one-and-done moment.

Instagram is giving you more ways to curate, edit and extend the life of your content after you hit publish. Rework what's already performing, make your profile easier to understand, and create content people want to save, share and repost. Keep creating. Keep testing. And keep your strategy focused on attracting the right people - not just chasing views.
